i think they call it sinterklaas here, but it's basically the same thing.
you buy people presents, tell kids some magical old man in a red suit dropped them off, eat an obscene amount of food.

( two thoughts occur to him almost at once. the first is that why would someone go to the trouble of getting someone a gift and not take credit for it. and the second, marginally more prominent thought, is that he finally has someone to buy presents for, and that he's about to spend the next few days ㅡ possibly weeks ㅡ in a cave. )
